Lumia aurora help

Hi Need some help from the led gurus.

I have recently purchased the Lumia auroras 5.2 from clay-boa. Wired it up as per the manual however only channel 3 (White) is firing from the storm controller. The other channels fire till 11% then shut off. What am i doing wrong?

Here is an image of the connections:

Here is a video of what i explained earlier:

Appreciate the help guys...

First off...it's a Lumia chip, the aurora is a different chip. That's just my ocd kicking in.

It's hard to see where all your wires go from the chip to the board etc...but i would check to make sure your wires are connected correctly...+ to + and - to -...then check for stray wires causing shorts on you.

It sounds like a ground issue...but its hard to tell like I said bc the pictures aren't that great for figuring out where everything is going.

Yes i got the name wrong, i have double checked the + to + and the - to - so the problem is not there. I have made a small diagram below to mention where each of the wires are going:

if wired per your diagram and you are sure there are no shorts anywhere then it may be a controller issue, or an issue with the LDD board (did you solder the boards your self or did they come assembled?)

Time for some trouble shooting. Disconnect the pwm wires from the storm controller, except for channel 3 which is working. Try to use channel 3 to light the other LED strings past 11%. If it works then there is an issue with the Storm X. could be software, could be hardware (figure that out next) If you still only get to 11% using the channel 3 pwm signal to control other strings, then the issue is at either the LDD board, or the LED board.

One step at a time.

Hi Zacts, when I mentioned channel 3 it was the channel on the lumia that goes onto the corallux board not the channel on the storm. I doubt it's a problem with the storm I had connected some LEDs to other channels and they ran fine past 11% it's only the other channels on the lumia that would shut off. I tried what u suggested to just use channel 3 of the storm for another led string of the lumia but the result is the same.

So, have you tried running a different lumia channel (string) with the same LDD that was running channel 3? I'm suspecting an issue with either the LDDs or the Lumia chip, or somewhere in the wiring in between..... Lumia has 5 strings of LEDs, you are running 1 string per LDD correct?

I have tried running the 1st lumia channel (string) with the same LDD that was running channel 3 and the issue still persists...

The ground wires for channels 4 & 5 should not be going back to the power supply. All 5 channel ground wires from the storm should be going into the ground pin right next to channel 5 on the coralux board.

Also, you don't need 2 sets of wires going from the power supply into the coralux board. One will supply the juice it needs as long as your power supply can handle it.

I had tried running the ground wires for channel 4 & 5 to the ground pin of the coralux board earlier, however the result is the same.

It makes no difference, He's just got more V- wires connected than really needed. In Reality only one V- pin from the Storm needs to tie to either the Storm board or the PSU. And one V- from the PSU to the storm Board.

It sounds like a problem with the Lumia then. possibly a shorted connection somewhere, either on the board (too much solder under an LED shorting things) or at the wire connections to the Lumia Board.

If all the LDDs and All the PWM pins work correctly on the Lumia Channel 3 whites then you definitely have a problem with the board and should consider trying to get a replacement.

You could do some short testing with your multi-meter to find out for sure where the problem is.

also, another good test is to take a dual AA battery tray and connect them to your PWM input for a channel on the Coralux board. This will give you another test of the PWM dimmer side and rule out the storm being your problem. If you get constant lighting on that channel with your battery power supplying the PWM signal then the Storm is likely the culprit...if it gives out then it is on the Coralux board or Lumia board.

+1

Also maybe get a hold of some regular star board leds and test the channels that way?

He already tried that and they worked fine. Thus likely the problem lies between the LDD and the Lumia LEDs either on the board or in the connections somewhere. Probably not user error at this point.
