macro algae quit growing........why?

I'm not sure what kind it is exactly but when I first got it it grew like crazy and I had to remove a lot of it and place it in another tank. It is green and kinda looks like blades of grass maybe 1/4 inch in width. Kinda like a vine spreading under the sand. Anyway, it just seems to have quit growing to the point of where I have to take some out of the other tank and replant it. I have MH lighting with about 6.2 watts per gallon. Just wondering if anyone would know why it would quit growing? I have a yellow tang, coral beauty, couple damsels, 6 line wrasse, and a couple neon gobies. I see my tang picking at it once in a while but not to even near the point of effecting it's growth. Any suggestions?

macro-algae

Hi! Skooter:

I had the same thing happen, I had razor caleurpa growing like crazy had to trim each week all of a sudden it started to disappear & now I have none in my sump? I was told a couple of things 1. it could of gone asexual but I did not notice any yellow water & my corals look the same,2. I needed to add iron so the macro-algae can grow, 3. my nitrate levels came down because of the macro algae so I should feed the tank a little more.I added other macro-algaes & started to feed the tank more, I have growth but not like in the beginning but that's because the tank has matured. If you see the algae thinning out check nitrate levels if zero add food to the tank it needs these nutrients to grow.
