macro algae

I'm looking for some macro besides Cheto. Prolifera, grape, graciliara(sp?) whatever. any reds would be cool. I can't find any at the LFSs. I'd be willing to buy or trade for some if necessary.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but can anyone explain why I have so much trouble growing macro algae in my refugium?
My nitrate levels are pretty high - around 25 but the stuff just slowly withers away.
I got a new clump of chaeto from Joeseph a while back that didn't seem to do much.
Then I replaced the bulbs with new ones (http://www.goodmart.com/products/694712.htm) which helped a bit but it eventually stopped growing again and just became a tight mess of gooey chaeto.
Anyone dose iron to help grow their macro?

I noticed that bulb is 5100 K, I have had good results with 6500K so I wonder if that is part of it. Granted 5100 should still be alright for plants, but I have never used it. Chaeto is not that picky light and nutrients is all it takes. Sounds like you have nutrients so naturally I look to the former.

Yeah, I just deleted some.
How many PM's are we allowed to keep?
Seems like it's less than before.
Guess they're really trying to push the paid memberships...

After talking to Joseph, I wouldn't mind trying some Gracilaria.
If there's none locally then maybe we should order some online.

Well I see a bit of a trend.
Joseph also mentioned that his macro died back after prodibio, which I've also been using for about 6 weeks.
What is confusing me though is that my nitrate level hasn't dropped any since using prodibio.

everything I read about prodibio is a problem. guess you really have to be careful using that stuff. I have a hard time getting away from what is already working with my tank for fear that I will just mess up the chemical makeup of the tank altogether.

Hmmm, I haven't heard anything bad about prodibio.
Do you have some threads you've read?

For me, macro algae dying isn't a bad thing if it's because of reduced nutrients.
In my case my nutrient level hasn't decreased so don't know that there is any relation.

I am using Prodibio and am happy but you do need to be careful with the dosing. My nirates have dropped to 0 from 10. My Cheato comes and goes now. Befoe I was giving it away left and right. May sure you bulb is 51k and not 2700.
floridareefs is wrong to make a statement the everything he has read about prodibio is a problem. There are two big threads on RC that point out the positives of prodibio as well as info on Rob's forum. On iwan's thread a few weeks ago they even talked about someone that have the same issues you have. It is a great thread and I highly recommend reviewing it.

Mike, dont get bent out of shape about my comments. It just seems, what I have read, And take that for what it worth as I am not a prodibio user, hasnt been the greatest. You mentioned one about nitrates, I heard Rob mention something about dosing it againt another chemical was a no no.

I did not and dont advise against or for the product FWIW!

Yeah Well you said " flreefs is wrong to make a statement that everything he has read about prodibio is a problem"

Correct me if I am wrong Mike, Do you know what I have read? I sure hope not.

I was just reading a thread in the chemistry forum where Randy Holmes farley is going to test it. I would not say all the comment on that thread, and you can read it for yourself so you will see what I read, are positive.

Nonetheless, I am more interested n the Macro Algae than Prodibio.

Yes I have read the thread and no I do not what you have read. The point is I have read everything I can find about prodibio, vodka and related theories and the majority are positive.
There is nothing wrong with the tried and true. I believe that methods like prodibio are best suited for SPS tanks. However, you can't make a blanket statement "everything I read about prodibio is a problem" and be well read IMO.

No MIKe, here you go again. "You Believe" statement is all good. But my Statement of "everything I read is a problem" is not! Mike, I think this is called "calling the kettle black" Let me just point out AGAIN. I certainly CAN make a blanket statement that everything I read, I meaning ME or I Me ME ME I have read about Prodibio is a problem. Hence, is why I made the statment because "IT IS WHAT I HAVE READ. I hope you get my point now. I think I CLEARLY stated just above that I don't use the priduct, have not read MUCH about the product, don't advise or illadvise of its use.

SO please don't tell me what I can state and what I can't state!

Thanks

Mike,

I don't want to read more man!!!! Why can't you get my point? If I wanted to read more, I would. I am not interested in the product in any way shape or form. I simply stated, from what IIIIII read it did not seem like a great product. Dude, can you make any more comments about it? Maybe we can drop the Prodibo review? You like it great! NUff said.

I say we not hijack Edges thread anymore!!!!
