Macro Photography Nikon d5000

I have a hard time focusing when trying to taking macro photos with my nikon d5000.

Like this photo the snails eggs are in focus but the rest of the snail is not any tips?

Also the blues in this photo were much more brilliant on the view finder then when I snap the photo it looks washed out.

In the first pic, it looks like you're really close which reduces the DOF. If you either back up some or lower the aperture it will bring things more into focus. In the second pic you can see you backed up some as more of the pic is in focus, but the pic is over exposed, so the color becomes more washed out. You should shoot the tank in raw and make adjustments in post after. It would help the second pic.
