Macros with my D40x, Nikon 105 AI-S f2.8 and extention tubes

Wow! I just got a D40 a couple of weeks ago and that lens is exactly what I intend to buy when I can raise the funds.

Couple of questions if you don't mind.

How much difference do the extension tubes make?
What post processing features of PS did you use?
Where did you buy the lens?

Thanx

With the estension tubes you can get a lot closer. How much? I am not sure but check the following links for some examples.

I use Photoshop for post processing. The first thing I do is use the Auto Balance and see the effect on the photo. I can say that 95% of the photos improves with Auto Balance. I also use the sharpness filter. I add the borders with the canvas feauture. Sometimes I crop the photo and for some use Color Balance to adjust the blue from the actinics. I may use other adjustments but these are the basic ones.

I purchased the lens at ebay. There is one for sale right now.

Very nice. I've got a D40 with the kit lens, and I'm trying to figure out how to get some good macros going. Right now I'm having trouble just adjusting the white balance (it was much easier with my P&S, just select flourescent 1 or 2, and you're done).

Gives me something to look forward to being able to do!
