does anyone think that will be too much? i did the head loss calc and its a 13x water movement. any opinions?

I ran a mag 9 on a 29 gallon...The return was split with a T joint and I had a check valve which slowed it down some, but really it wasn't too bad.....Put a gate valve in so you can control the flow if needed, but I usually ran mine wide open....Just make sure that you aren't getting microbubbles in the display

well i have it running on my 75 right now. its not anywhere near the turnover rate but it is working ok on my 75. it will be the same water movement. im planning on not having to use any powerheads in the tank with this much flow.

To me it really depends on the amount of flow you want going through your sump.....If the 7 turns out not to be a problem then use it....If not, I would get a Mag 5 for the sump and set up a closed loop with the 7. Then you have proper flow through the sump, plenty of movement, and no powerheads. Just make sure you don't leave any dead spots. Again, personally, I don't think the 7 is too much.

cool just trying to get some opinions before i tare down the 75. getting a 180 and dont want to do it all in 1 day so im moving as much as i can to the 30 untill i get the 180. thanks

i have a mag 7 running as a sump return on my 30gallon and i still added a maxijet 1200 for more circulation. I have it returning in a T set up which kills some of the flow.

i have a mag 5 return on my sump, and i have it notched down like half way with a ball valve, or else it emptied my sump really quickly.

you dont want the return to be used as your main circulation anyways, you want powerheads or a closed loop for that

I use a Mag 5 on my 30 breeder with only 1 return...and the flow is pretty strong right there, so much so that it blows sand around the front of the tank. I think a Mag 7 would be a bit much unless you split the returns. But then again, it's only temporary...

I have a mag7 through an oceansmotions 4-way on my 35g. Perfect amount of flow for my LPS/Softies tank.
