Magic?

On one of my rocks...I have what looks like a bunch of feathers sticking out of a small hole. They are in the shape of what a megaphone might look like. Well, I just went in to get a closer look, and *"WHOOSH"* she was gone. DISSAPEARED into pore in the rock!! She came back out...and when i tried to get another close look, did the same thing again. What is this?? And how does this plant know that I'm looking at her???

Sounds like a christmas tree for sure to me :) Cool little critter...i think its actually a worm, but do a search for christmas tree coral/worm on google images and see if thats it.

Either a Christmas tree or mini feather duster probably. I have never figured out how they know we are looking at them myself. The long er they are in the tank the more stay out.

Feather dusters dont suck back into their holes that quickly...christmas tree's are seriously like lightening fast lol. I see a noticeable difference from all the ones in my tank. I have a single "american flag color themed" christmas tree in my tank lol, and he's much quicker than all my dusters.

Also, the dusters are normally in at least a small tube, right? The christmas trees are more of just a hole, not so much a tube from what i can tell.

I have a feather duster growing out of the side of one of my corals, and it jumps back into its tube VERY quickly when one of the fish gets too near it. This is not cone-shaped like a Christmas Tree worm, unless they look different when they're small?

an easily spotted difference (IMO anyways ;) ) is that the christmas seems to have multiple "layers" to it...where the feathers are pretty much just one fan/layer.

Common feater duster hitch hiker. Xmas Tree worms are concial, not megaphone shaped. And yes, they can live in rocks (I have tons) and quicly retract.

Or maybe it is magic......hmmmmmm.....

OK, that's what I thought, and I went and googled some images in the meantime too. Thanks!
