Magnesium Test not turning blue!!

Just did three tests today and can not get a blue color. I used the whole siringe and half of another and still no blue. There is no way my magnesium is above 1600? So I must be doing something wrong or my test kit is faulty. :eek1:

I cleaned the glass vial and syringe with rodi water every time and waited until it is dry. I then took a sample of my saltwater, 2ml. I then added 5 drops of reagent A (One at a time and shaking 15 seconds after every drop) Then added 5 drops of B and shook for a few seconds, then drew C and added it. No Change.

I do not understand what is going on. Any advice? I have an unopened container of Kalk I want to start dosing, but can not get an accurate , or ANY, reading on my Red Sea Magnesium Test Kit. :thumbdown

I would get another test kit to make sure you have a working kit.

Not saying the brand you are using is bad, but always best to double check before making major changes

I use the salifert mag test I like it. Seems relatively consistent. Maybe try that one and see if the results vary or confirm what you are seeing.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a Salifert kit almost new but lost the Mg-2. So I went to my LFS and bought the whole CA,KH,MG kit from Red Sea and can not get it to read.

Not having a good time with Magnesium kits, I wish Hanna made a Mg test.

np, was adjusting my mag and calc, the other day so I ran the test like 9 times, I got a lot of good experience in a short time lol.

if you mean me, just manually dosing, water changes aren't getting my levels up to normal, but I haven't started autodosing because I still have a very light load.

You are starting with the correct 2ml of tank water right? If I recall, the Mag takes 2ml, Calc takes 5ml and Alk takes 10ml. That could skew results..
