Magnesium test

Hey guys and gals. I'm testing for magnesium in my 70 gallon reef tank. I've added enough magnesium to bump it to about 1000ppm over the last week or so and yet my salifert mag test reads nothing. Do I have a faulty test? I also use dd-h2ocean salt at 1.025. Which had mag at 1300ppm.

By nothing, are you saying the colour isn't changing and the syringe is empty? If yes, refill your syringe and keep dripping. Add the value of the extra drops to 1500 to get your final result. Sounds like your MG is 1500+

Yeah. The colour isn't cha nging. Supposed to turn grey or blue and it status purple. The scale works in reverse. If I put .2ml from the syringe and it changes colour then my mag is at 1500 if it takes the whole syringe I'm basically reading less than 30 the whole time or am I reading the scale wrong?

No, other way around for the Salifert test. You are most likely well over 1500mg

Ahh. OK. I guess I can add my calcium then now. Haha.
