Picking up a test tomorrow for testing Magnesium.
Once I test this what product do I need to pick up to bring these levels up?
Having Calcium problems..180 range not being able to bring up..
Thanks
.

Mixing saltwater right now for my water change tomorrow{reef crystals} and took a Calcium reading and came up with 405.
My tank at the moment is 180. Make any sense to anyone?

The low calcium is not necessarily a sign of low magnesium. Adding enough calcium chloride (ESV, Warner, Kent, Dowflake from Home Depot, etc) will boost calcium levels regardless of magnesium (even if there is none).

Leave the carbon. I don't usually like floss, but if you clean it regularly it can be OK.

This calculator shows how much calcium chloride to add (it is a lot!!!):

As to magnesium, my preference would be to dose either ESV or Kent magnesium supplement as necessary, or make your own if you can find magneisum chloride from the Dead Sea Works (sold as a deicer).

Randy, I pointed him towards mag in another thread because he said he got his calcium up and two days later it was back down.
Just didnt want to see him dumping endless amounts of calcium in without knowing what his mag was.

Anyways he's going in the right direction by reading your articles.

I also just checked the Calcium level with a differant kit {Red Sea} and came up with 300.
I'm fixing to do my water change,had water sitting over night{power 02 supplied}
So from what my levels are I'm thinking that I had a BAD test kit{Aquarium System}.
Also tested the freshly mixed {water change} and came up with a Calcium level of 410
Still a bit confussed ?

Many kits are far less accurate than most folks give them credit for. But if it is low, you can certainly always raise it with enough calcium chloride. :)

A low calcium level can stress hard corals, but so can a lot of other things. Soft corals would not likely be stressed by low calcium for a long time.

Sometimes Toadstools retract their polyps for a week or more to shed their skin and then they re-emerge better than ever. This may just be a coincidence, but you are smart to adjust your levels anyway.
