Magnum 350

Can you hook up the Magnum 350 to an exteranl pump like a Mag 3 so you can increase the amount of head the pump can handle.

I need to get the cannister to reach about 6' of head. It's for a turtle tank.

Ya Ya no jokes about the head. :D

edit: anyone have an extra impeller lying around? Mine's kind of roughed up a bit.

Why not just put the Magnum 350 on a 3' stand? Less equipment, less maintenance, less electricity. Just make sure it doesnt tip over and bust off the lines. Heh.

I am confused... CAn't a canister handle that? Once primed, it is more like a closed loop. The waterpressure of the the aquarium shold be pushing dow the 6 feet, so the water in the pipes should be at the aquarium height. Allt he pump in the canister does is pull water over the top of the aquarium, gravity does the rest...
Right?

I have a Magnum 350 on a tank that is near 5 feet, I get tons of flow.

At 6' I'm getting a it more than a trickle.

Could put in a MJ 1200 to help push the water up over the wall of the tank, to get more water to go through it, or is something just wrong with the filter.

I guess your best check would be raise the canister higher and see if it gets better. I always thought that the beauty of the canister was they way it used the pressure of the tank to its advantage, that is what made them so effecient.

I could be way wrong though.

Theres still backpressure that the pump needs to overcome.
If the outlet was submerged, then it may be a different story but unfortunately they arent designed like that. Especially on a partially filled turtle tank.

If its not head pressure, then check the gaskets and internals. Its possible its the filter.
