maidens hair?!?!?

i have what i first thought was hair algae but now i think it may be maidens hair. it has grown fairly long and is real flowy (not clumpy and slimy like hair algae). Is this good stuff b/c it is growing only on my green star polyps and i think it may be killing them b/c the polyps haven't come out for a couple days now...

Should i get a sea hare to get rid of it or should i try to crop it and cultivate it in my refuge?

it's really a great thing to have since it will take up nutrients in the water however since it is toxic to just about all fish except that I have read some yellow tangs may eat the stems will leave it alone. I would def. cut it back away from the polyps and move it around the tank or place some in the refuge.
