For some reason, fish placed in one of my tanks NEVER gets ich, but the same fish placed in my other tank ALWAYS get ich! Can someone help me figure it out ?!?? The good tank started as a QT, but I never had to add any medication... the fish just got better on their own.
Here's the stats:
QT Tank: 15 Gal, lace rock only, no medication, got water from main tank; skimmer=HOB backpack2 with MaxiJet1200
Main Tank: 45 Gal, 60lbs live rock; skimmer= HOB RemoraC with Mag3 pump.
Both tanks have identical parameters: ph=8; n02=0; NHe=0; n03=@30; temp=80
I put foxface and kole tang in main tank-- they got bad ich... tang died; I put foxface in QT tank, it got better immediately. I left main tank fallow for 2 months; I put foxface back in main tank, and it got ich in 3 days (after 2 months of fallow!); I put it back in QT tank, and in 1 day it got perfectly better again; ich never returned.
The only thing it can possibly be is the pump on the protein skimmer. I think the MAG3 (which is really noisy) produces some sort of noise or magnetic waves that stresses out the fish, so they are more suseptible to ich...? Does anyone have any other ideas ?!??
