Majestic Sea Life Bad News!!

I just got back from taking care of a co-workers tank that lives on Davis-Monthan AFB. He just started a 4 month deployment with the Air Force. Well, the story is, I went home for the weekend to Chicago, I had checked on the tank Wednesday before I left. The tank ended up overflowing on Saturday night last weekend. All the water that flooded hit the powerstrips and started a small fire. They called 911 and everything. Anyway, so she called all the surrounding pet stores in the area to help her get the tank running again. Due to bad timing the only ones available was Majestic Sea Life. So they came over early Sunday morning to help her. $250 LATER the tank was back up and running. This is only a basic 46 gallon Reef tank with a CPR Overflow and 10 Gallon sump. THEY CHARGED A $100 FOR EMERGENCY FEE!! They sold her a coralife power strip for $36.99 and a used Tom AIr luft pump for $14.99 discounted from New at $19.99 which is fine, the coralife power strip is the one with the timers and everything. But another $19.99 for a regular power strip that you can get at wal-mart, Calling it an Aquarium Light Service Strip. LOL Then charged her another $60 just for service. So the besides the "Gold Plated" Light Service strip and the EMERGENCY FEE of $100 it would have been close to alright.
Anyways I thought that Majestic SEa Life Totally took advantage of the situation and charged whatever they wanted because she did not want the whole tank to be dead for her husband when he returns, and had to pay whatever to get it up and running. Just thought people should know what type of store and company are dealing with when it comes to dealilng with Majestic Sea Life.
 
Sorry to say that this is the usual for them. Sorry that it was a person serving our Country. They survive by getting people that do not know better and gouging those that cross their path. I haven't been in their store since getting free flatworms and being told they don't hurt anything. That was more then 5 years ago and still we hear the horror stories about them.
 
She should've asked us! I hope everybody knows that they can ask my father (ZOAKEEPER) and I anytime. We'lll be more than happy to help.

I know that too, but my friend is new to forums and hasn't had the privilege of meeting everyone yet. He was a Majestic Sea Life customer for a long time until I told him some horror stories and turned him to Rob at Southwest. He told his wife to call Rob but again, and sorry Rob to put your business (Celebration) out there but Rob and his wife just had a new baby!! So OBVIOUSLY his time this past weekend was precious! But he still told her that he could be there, just a little bit later, and told her to just turn on the powerheads for now until he got there. But she was too scared after the fire and called Majestic and got taken to house.
 
So for any one out there that reads these posts PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE PURCHASING ANYTHING WHETHER IT BE DRY GOODS, LIVESTOCK, OR SERVICES. Most people by goods from good company's expecting value, and longetivity and maybe a warranty. But they buy things by the REPUTATION OF THE NAME AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE COMPANY TO STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT.
 
Sorry for the third post. Furthermore, some of you may already know this but obviously MAJESTIC SEA LIFE DOESN'T. It is ILLEGAL for companies to blatantly rip off/take advantage of military members and families. I will be pressing this issue on base about Majestic Sea Life and what happened. I have the receipt of their charges in my possession and will probably be posting it on here to prove that I am not exaggerating this at all. So thank you all for support in this matter, and i know that my friend will appreciate this as well. You can show your support even more by boycotting Majestic Sea Life and by spreading this story to everyone. His Screen name on here is SOJUEXP if anyone wanted to know.
 
In the "Old days" the Post/Base Comander would put a business "Off Limits" and post it on all Unit Bullitin Boards. Mostly bars and car dealers, maybe majestjoke could be the first LFS to qualify for these Honors.
 
I think majestic is the most over priced store here in Tucson. I was in there a little while ago and they want 99 bucks for a clownfish ocellaris. I really havnt found a decent place here yet...but that might be due to me being used to stores back in Philadelphia...
 
Somebody told me that Majestic once tried to SELL Aiptasia for 10 bucks a pop!

Also, I work on the base and would be glad to help anyone who ever needed help with their tank.

What you have heard is a true story. I know of one individual who they tried to sell "Aiptasia anemones" to for 10 dollars each. Odds are there were more people who bought unknowingly. The person who worked there may be among us here. Buyer and newbies beware.....research, research, research!!!

Thanks fitchguy I will be going to them when I get back from my deployment and try to get something back. I doubt it thou.
