Making a fake sandbed...

I'm starting a new tank but i wanted the BB effect and the sand look all together... to do this i was thinking of doing:

- Using a piece of starboard to layout on the bottom of the tank and then glue a thin layer of sand on top of it...
so basically it will look like it has sand but at the same time it doesn't have any that would trap detritus or being it blown around by my pumps!

any suggestions?
will any glue do it?
any other ideas that would create the same effect?

I would think that algae would grow on it over time and it wouldn't look good.

Just a guess, no personal experience....

i know coralline and algae might grow on it, but thats what a clean up crew is for right? a lot of snails will do the job?

my current tank has a half inch sand bed but there is always sections of sand being blown open due to pumps and i didn't really like the deep sand bed thing.

any other suggestions?
