making an intank fuge???

hello all, i'm in the midle of designing my tank and sump and had an idea and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this.

I have a 180 gal tank, was going to have my fuge in the sump. Question is can I put a piece of glass (baffle) in it to section off 18 in of one end and use this section as a fuge?

Is this idea at all possible or is it more hassle then it would be benefit.

I've heard of it, and think it would be neat- doing a reverse daylight schedule might be out of the question?

Yes you can.
There are many was to go about plumbing it, but it can be done.

When I get around to setting up my new 90 gal I was actually thinking about something similar. What I have in mind is to take some narrow pieces of glass and silicone them in a gradual curve from near the top of one end of the tank part way down the short side (as opposed to a box or straight divider). I'd leave a small gap between each piece of glass to allow for flow so no pump or overflow would be necessary. I have some scrap pieces of glass from a broken top piece off my 75 gal and tried my tile cutter on them.... it worked. I also have a wet tile saw which should cut glass as well. I'll have a basement sump and may put another refugium down there. No reason you can't have two and then a reverse light period is possible. With your larger DT, an in tank fuge should work quite well and depending on what you keep in it, it can add to the beauty of the display.

Well i was going to use black non transparent glass and paint the back any way so if i did this all i would have to do is paint the sides as well. then sence i am still designing and building i could adjust my canopy to hold a 48 inch light for the main and a 24 inch for the fuge.

its been done before, ive seen an in tank fudge in ultimate reefss by michael. s. paletta, basically its in the left hand corner, theres a full blown fudge in there, its quite hidden as well behing corals and rocks etc but accessable, not sure how its lit though

well what I was thinking about was to section off 18 or maybe 24 inches of one end, that would make it either 45 or 60 gallons. I would then make that into a fuge / seahorse tank. would this work or no seahorse's?

If no seahorse's then I would make it into a fuge with more atractive algae like ulva, codium, some red gracilaria, and a couple scrub bushes. then in my sump I am still going to have a small fuge area either way, and in that area im going to have chaeto and gracilaria. I am also planning to have a small fuge on the back for mangroves.

will it work with the seahorse's or at all.

so any and all opinion's on any part of or all of these ideas are greatly appreciated
