Making Rock

I've looked at it, but it seems like too much work for me, and I really don't like the finished product much.

Why not just seed some base rock (marcorocks.com seems to come highly regarded) in buckets with a small bit of live rock. That's another way to "diy" live rock..

I think it would be cool to have your own hand made rock in your tank with all the little caves and stuff. All the rock will be covered in coraline after a couple months. If anything that site has some nice rock.

we have made severals pieces. the hard part is the time getting the ph down during curing. more time consuming than hard.

advantage is that you can make any shape you want - they didn't all work the way i had them invisioned! we used the salt mix and left them much lighter. we had bridges, shelves, swiss cheese, what ever. i tried once to make a pocket to fill with sand, but the powerhead kept putting it back down on the bottom!

There is no need to soak it for months to get the ph down. Just put it in a tub of fresh water with a powerhead, and add 1 pkg of active dry yeast, and 1/2 cup sugar. It will take about 5 to 7 days and it will be ready to rinse and use.
