This is a picture of my male clown TAG. He hosts a clump of mature Xenia and is always in them. I thought that what appears to be slime would go away - this just started the last a couple of days or so.

He is my first fish and I really want to do everything I can to keep him healthy. He never goes to the cleaning station, but as you can see he is now visiting the cleaner shrimp.

It appeard to be like a dusty slime that I would have thought to go away.

If anyone can help diagnose the ailment and the cure I would be greatful.

Thank you

David

It could be velvet disease caused by the parasite Amyloodinium ocellatum. Or it could be brooklynella "clownfish" diesease caused by the parasite Brooklynella hostilis. Either way you should treat the fish quickly. You can use hyposalinity, formalin, or copper to treat the disease depending on which it is. Check out the disease part on wetwebmedia.com for more accurate diagnosis and treatments.

It could be marine ich, but it didn't really look like that in the picture. I've treated my perculas for ich with cupramine copper. I've also treated my clarkiis for brooklynella with formalin. The female who wasn't showing signs of the disease survived, but the male, who had mucus all over him, didn't make it.

Good luck!

Sorry, but that is a disease. Both of my clownfish got it, as well. You can treat it though, I did. Purchase Kanaplex by Seachem, put the fish in a 1/2 gal fish bowl with an aerator pump, and add the mediation, try to drop it on top of the fish. Make sure you change half the water everyday and within 5 days to a week or less your fish should be back to normal.

Well, it has been a few days and I am treating him with Maracyn Two and he seems to be on the road to recover, and since he is the only thing in the hospital tank I can tell he is eating and seeming to do well.
