Mandarin in a 12 gal NC?

I felt guilty for having a mandarin in a well established 55g (he got a new home). So I would say NO to your request.

No - choose a small fish that doesn't have such specific needs. Even if they accept prepared food, they would not get enough nutrition in a 12 gallon (prepared food is good to supplement only). It is horrible to watch them slowly starve. Don't try it.
