mandarin in QT

I have a male madarin in a 10 gallon QT. I have added some Live rock to the tank just to make him feel better nad to try and provide him some copods. I have not started treatment yet... I have had him for 3 days. I am also feeding cyclopeez (sp?) but he is not eating?

What should I do? I fear a death sentence for my mandy in QT? I have a 50 gallon waiting for him... with copods?

I was going to order more live copods for him and put them in the QT tank... Will treating with Prazi / Cupramine kill the copods? How do I feed Mandy while in QT?

He looks great! My plan is to either place him in DT (fallow 3 months!) or keep him in QT and treat cupramine / prazi if I can figure out how to feed him

I may be repeating myself from a different thread, but have you tried Nutramar Ova? Not too many mandys will turn that down - even wild caught ones. I've sustained multiple mandys thru QT (including a mated pair) just by feeding ova.

does it come unfrozen and then you just freeze it after opening? wondering if any LFS around sell that. I am thinking of doing a mandy pair next.

should QT even a Mandy, regardless if they are less known to carry ich, etc. TTM + that stuff discussed above will get him ready for the DT in no-time.

has your DT already completed its 3 month fallow?

I've only bought it frozen (locally). When I say locally, it's a LFS 3 hrs away, and I use ice packs to keep it as cold as possible for the ride home. Put it in the freezer as soon as I get home - never had any problems.

F&S also sells it (see link), so you can buy it online. But I believe the shipping charges for frozen food are quite high...

When I purchase food from F&S I order a quantity for the freezer which includes Nutramar, PE mysis, etc. As such, the shipping charge, amortized over a lot of frozen food is not too bad.

Looks like it's $25 shipping for as much frozen food as you wish to order. I guess I could deal with that if I ordered enough at one time. Or better yet, find a fellow reefer nearby to go in together with and split the shipping cost.

Since I have multiple tanks, and a dedicated freezer for fish food (and chinese food . . . don 't go there!), it works out well for me to order quantities. Since I like to offer variety (also NLS pellets) of frozen, with infrequent large orders, shipping cost is not too bad. But sharing is even better still!

thanks! Ok yes I am looking for Nutramar Ova and trying to find a LFS to sell it.

I also just made my first batch of baby brine shrimp that I hatched. I had read on a previous thread that feeding stations for mandy's work well with baby brine shrimp. It is just impossible to tell if he is eating it?

How long will baby brine shrimp live in the QT mandy tank if not eaten? Will they all die and cause an ammonia spike? The guys are little but still? AND how do you tell if the brine shrimp are alive? They are so tiny...? I think they are b/c I turned off the air and put a light under the cut open coke bottle and poof in 10 10 minutes everything was a a the bottom? but even dead ones would sink? Some shells on top but not many?

I've tried the baby brine shrimp thing, and unless you have a mandy that will eat in the water column it's a waste of time. Soak the ova in s/w, it will sink to the bottom, and the mandy will strike at it the same way they do pods. I've also read about some people having success getting mandys to eat tiny sinking pellets and frozen Cyclop-Eeze.

I got mine through 2 quarantines with Dr G.'s caviar, cyclopeeze and bottled pods squirted into a small jar...kind of like a feeding station. He eventually started eating mysis. Now he hits the turkey baster when I feed. It can be done but it's does get costly.

So I put in the baby brine shrimp.. he perked up but I have no idea if he is eating? and I have no idea if the eggs hatched. It appears that Nutrama ova IS baby brine shrimp eggs so if they didn't hatch it would be better? They are out right now and not even selling if I would pay the shipping.. which I would b/c I want him to live.

so my question is what is the impact to the ammonia of the water if I add baby brine shrimp or shrimp eggs to the tank? I will make the feeding jar tomorrow with my next batch.. but how much is to much to foul the tank? I am wondering b/c is in the only inhabitant in the 10 gallon tank... if he does not eat them. .then I assume they live or die? That is my question? Wouldn't baby brine shrimp just grow up bigger if he does not eat them?
