Went fishing today and find a decent size of mangrove so I figure I grab it and stick it in my tank.kinda just stuck it behind a rock having the top exposed.is it being under a mh to much light? Friend of mines said all I really have to do is water it some fresh water every day.kinda wanna see it grow so I figure I post for some advice.

Mangroves grow in full sun, so MH lighting is ideal for a mangrove! And you don't actually have to water it with freshwater, when it gets leaves you spray the salt off of them with freshwater (rain does this job in the wild).

As for growth, roots will come first (place it in the sand ideally until it grows roots.), then once it gets a hold it will slowly start growing leaves and increase in height. This all takes a few years though, it is a tree! Giga's mangrove thread is a GREAT read if you are really looking to grow it!

Thanks tiki.got the first part little confused about the second part...so should I place the mangrove in the sandbed then once it starts rooting move it up? Did read gigas thread and it's amazing..mangroves are nice there's small little jungles of them all over the place..preety neat in general

update..

update..

Should I move it..seems like it's getting to close to the glass..read somewhere where it said it's roots can separate the glass...or can I just place it in the sand now that is rooting?
