mangroves, have a question

meow?

Hi,

On a scale 1-10 ( 1 being less and 10 being the best ) how efficient are mangrove's with the removal of nitrate's?

thanks

Are you comparing them to something like Chaeto? If so Chaeto might rank a 10 while a mangrove may rank a 2. They grow very slow compared to macroalgae. They are a tree after all. So unless you have hundreds in a huge mangrove fuge then they might not give you the results you are looking for. They are, however, a very unique and beautiful addition to a tank. I have several in my display.

Actually I wasn't comparing it to any form of algae. Just the mangrove alone. I just wondered where it ranked in the middle of things as a plant or tree.

I have ten mangroves in my fuge and i have 0 readings on phosphate, nitrate ..etc. They work good for me and my LFS uses a all mangrove/lr system for all there tanks.
