so i just got my first mantis today...he's a N. wennerae. He made a den that is kinda between some rocks and it is kinda open. i have some l/r rubble in the tank for him to build his home how he wants. how long will it take him to use the rubble to fix up his home??? also on Dr. Roys list of stomatopods it says that N. wennerae close up at night.....how will he close up an "open" den????

That may not be his perm home

May have just picked it because it was readily avaliable, when he starts settling in it may change or he may remodel with time.

First how big is your mantis? If you have live rock with various size holes, more than likely it will make its home there. I have a N. wennerae and the kittke guy has made all sorts of tunnels within my live rock. Rubble wise mine uses old, smashed up small hermit shells and sand. Give the little guy/girl time to get used to the new home. Pics pics and more pics and enjoy. :)

i ordered him from stomatopod.com and they said he would be an inch......i think hes more like 2 inches though......and the rock im using doesnt have many holes that are big enough for him to get in. i had a little den spot picked out for him but he actually wont fit in it!!! he is still just hangin out in the other den. rfl_racing: how active is your wennerae??? does he come out during the day to exploor the tank or does he hide in his den????

sorry that the pics are bad.....my camera sucks and wont focus right all the time. those are his true colors though....i think hes got some good coloration :)

Cool mantis. Mine doesn't come out much. He has so many tunnels within the rocks, he get across the tanl without being seen. I know where his main home, cause I see him every day. But every mantis is different. Looks like yours is going to be adventurer.
