Ok, my lfs (nearest within 72 miles) happened to have a mantis in-stock the day I went down to buy my equipment etc. Lucky Me. (Its on hold) The mantis was no more than an inch long, was very dark maroon in color. IT had its burrow under a piece of LR. Its raptorial appendages were green with a pink tip. I couldn't see the meral spot. I immediately thought N. Wennare. But the guy at the LFS said It had been there for several molts. HE also said that it came from a customer that only buys Indonesian rock. So I looked at roys list, and it sorta-kinda looks like G. Smithii. Can anyone confirm this given teh above info?
 
maroon, green arms, and pink tips. sounds close, but you'd need to see the meral spots to know fo sho.

but best bet its SOME small species of gonodactylus.

Oh haha, Keys Island, great place. Looks dingy on first glance, but everything is healthy, and he propagates and sells his own corals too. If you happen to be near there in the next couple days and can get a look at it, and let me know that would be great. Its a hellishly long drive. IF you dont know the adress its at 1800 Oxford and Santafe in Sheridan. Its right next to a big green bowling alley
 
oh yea, keys is the shiznit.

$15 dollar frags, or 4 for $45 floats my boat. Keys is one of my favs.

i actually might be headin down there this weekend. if i do ill be sure to peek:D
 
i actually had a bit of drama that prevented me from spending $$ that weekend.

but as of this morning, pauday, i now have a lil bit of capitol to burn here, so ima goin frag huntin thisa weekend.

Ahhh yes, shizzle pizzle. A classic. I prefer shiznit, but shizzle pizzle has a strange amount of comedic power to it.

Umm, I guess KI moved it. I tried calling to ask Mike to look at the meral spot. .................................................................. no. Yeah, lol
just ask to see the mantis. But yeah Ki's is da shiznit.
 
yea, before i got to keys i found a rock with BLUE CLOVE POLYPS at another LFS.

so i got halfway to englewood and went home.

I bought him anyway :) I am convinced he is n. wen or n. breidini. His meralspot is white, he has changed to a greenish/lime he has the pink rap tips. So far he i doing well. I think there may have been a VERY small mantis on teh rock I bought......its gone now tho..... I just got him today. HEs being a bit shy. And is scouting around for a cavityHe hasnt been out in teh ope, but he has poked his head out for a bit.
 
I think the guy the mantis originaly came from got jipped on the rock, I can positively ID it as one of the two. Also, is it normal for a mantis to be a bit reclusive for a couple days after it is added to the system?
 
YES SIR.

he'll propably be timid for a lil while.

it took bane about a month before he was comfortable enough to flex on me with his threat display.

hell explore, fortify a home, and just settle in. enjoy
 
YEah, Ive already seen 1 threat display, and hes explored behind the rockstructure, but only pokes his head out the front of his cavity. However he has eaten, definetly an interesting if suprising thing. I sat thre for nearly 5 mins before he lunged out, scared me half to death, then smacked the stick then retreated.
 
Ok, my mantis, now named Davo (dont really know why) Is still very reclusive, I can tell that he has been settling himself in, and carving out his network of tunnels etc, he is eating as well. However he will still do no more than poke his head out to eat.

thats just about how it goes.

for like the first month man, my lil smithii was pretty boring.

you also need to understand that most lil mantis' aint gonna go crazy eridicating everything that moves like a peacock.

im not kidding, but you lil home boy need to build his confidence.

get used to this....

as my guy has grown, so has his aggression. just be patient. resist the urge to feed him every day. rather start seeein what he likes.

find some tiny emerald crabs, hermits and snails to see what he likes best.
take some time and do some frag huntin. hell i ll ive you a frag of somethin if you ever find yourself in boulder.

give him time to realize that he is the master of his domaine. hes probably scared poopless rightnow.:D

time, my friend. time is what it takes. but seriously. get into frag-huntin. its good times
 
YEp Figured. Haha, boulder "Pot City" Diva is short for diver, diverman was taken......... But in anycase. Yeah i think next thurs im gonna go do some frag hunting.
