Mantis Shrimp HH

Hi Guys,

We now know that we have a HH - because we have seen it.
I've only caught a glimpse of it and thought it might have been a mantis shrimp. It looks a bit like a blenny on the top half and has eyes that are on stalks and is brown. I've tried staying up at night to see if it comes out but I haven't had much luck!!

However, my husband called me this morning to say that the HH was out and sitting on a rock - sunbathing......that was his description. He is not a reef buff and therefore couldn't definitely id the little bugger. He did try to get a picture, the HH stayed put right up until he took the photo; it disappeared just at that minute.

Would a Mantis come out during the day and sit on the rock?

Thanks for the input.

Mantis' are usually nocturnal and will bury themselves in a cave for the day, but I guess if he's hungry anything is possible.

Try using the plastic bottle trap with a little piece of shrimp in the bottle to capture him. Maybe its not even a Mantis.

use a flashlight with a red lens to observe the tank at night. i have kept a few mantis and a some werent shy at all and would come right to the glass

i just had this happen in my tank and it was a mantis he had only come out once and it was during the day my wife saw it and thought it was a leg to the star fish i had just bought but needless to say i took the rock out of my tank and put it in a bucket and used a scewer to get him out of the hole and flushed him due to the fact that know one in town wanted him and he ate to much of my live stock
