so every time I got to swamp bottom I have to play with the mantis shrimp. I love the thing.so my husband really wants one bad. so I am looking for a small non glass tank for sale. I am going to give in and get one. also does anyone know a way to lock the lid of a tank?? I would hate for my cat or my kid to mess with this shrimp. one more project know since my husband is all about saltwater tanks. I am taking my 30 long tank and setting it up for a zebra eel. Will this be big enough or should I go for a smaller eel. I like the snow flakes to.

For a mantis shrimp, you only need about a 10g tank depending on the species. You don't really need to worry about a smaller mantis cracking a glass tank, although there is still a chance. I setup a 5g tank for a mantis and its glass, and I'm not worried. As far as the cat or kid messing with the shrimp... They'll learn quickly not to. Mantis shrimp teach quite the lesson to people who invade on there territory. I read a story somewhere that a guy was babysitting his friends tank, and stuck his hand in and a 6" mantis came out and broke his knuckle. Also you can see the effects of small mantis shrimp on this forum, there is always people posting pics of what happened to there hand when they were trying to clean.

I forgot to add, my 12g Nanocube i'm trying to sell would be great for a mantis shrimp

Got any links to some nice pics?

I wish I did, if you keep your eye out on the mantis forum on here from time to time you'll see people with pics of there mantis hits. Here is a rather weak example of what they can do.
