Hi all,

I really want to get a mantis shrimp, they are simply amazing creatures!! I have a 30 gallon tank that was used for fresh water that i want to convert into a tank for a mantis shrimp. My questions are, is this tank big enough? Its a glass tank, should i switch to acrylic? As far as filtration goes I plan on some live sand and live rock that i can take from my 110 gal tank, but what about skimming or mechanical filtration? Would a bio wheel or a wet/dry filter be enough? Thank you for any help you can provide!!

Some are a little more sensitive than others as far as water quality is concerned, but the tank size is ok for most. Personally, I'd skim, if nothing else it will reduce the number of water changes. I use mechanical filtration on all of my mantis tanks, though a sump would probably be better. The glass on a 30g should be thick enough for most mantis shrimp to bang on without incident.
