Mappa Puffers and clown fish

Monstrigity

I just moved and am merging several tanks into one. The problem is I also have a mappa puffer and I am concerned that he may decide to eat my Percula clown pair that I have had for 7 years (they were my first fish). Is any one keeping clowns and puffers together? The Mappa is about 8''.

I had a 14" Mappa years back and tried adding a few clowns who were quickly eaten. Maybe try adding the clowns first though? Never add them after or they will be gone.

As the Mappa approaches 2 feet though I would think he will eventually eat them.

BTW, what size tank? They get HUGE! :)

My 14" Mappa outgrew a 180G very fast and I had to sell it :(

Small and slow fish like clowns and gobies will eventually get eaten by most puffers, regardless of when they're introduced in the tank.

In my early days I put a yellowbelllied puffer into a tank with an existing school of firefish gobies (established for 6 months). The next morning, 2 gobies were missing and 3 had massive chunks of meat ripped from their bodies....

just wanted to update. I solved the problem by plumbing my tank into the basement and using a 300 gallon stock tank as the sump. The mappa has it all to himself.

Justinpsmith, How long did it take your mappa to get that big. Mine has grown incredibly slow considering his adult size.

Hi

My mappa has gone from 3" to 5" in one year. I dont think they grow too fast in legnth. But it has put on a ton of mass. It went from smaller than golf ball size to bigger than baseball size. U should make sure it doesnt have worms and also prvide very high water qua;ity if you want yours to grow.
