It's so hard to find the saltwater version is it easier to order aquatic minocycline from eBay? I have a few fish with a bacterial infection during cupramine treatment. Currently I am using freshwater maracyn two but it's a bit pricy since I have to double up on the dosage.

I think they've phased the s/w versions of both Maracyn 1 & 2 out in favor of "Maracyn Plus". Plus contains two broad-spectrum antibiotics which are considered effective against both gram positive & negative infections. So, in theory, it should work the same as using both the Maracyns.

I think your only option is to buy erythromycin and minocycline if you want to duplicate the active ingredients found in Maracyn 1 & 2. Only thing that will be missing is the "B Complex Vitamins" they used to stimulate a fish's appetite during treatment. That was a major selling point IMO, as it's hard to duplicate the exact dosage of Vitamin B (and whatever else) they were using.

Now, I admit I can sometimes be resistant to change... but I wish they hadn't messed with tried & true.

Yeah the only problem with maracyn plus is that I can't dose it while running copper. While with maracyn two I could.

Generally speaking, you should be able to use any antibiotic w/copper. There shouldn't be any negative interaction, other than further appetite suppression. But that will happen with Maracyn 2 as well. So, I think you probably can use Maracyn Plus... but until somebody actually does it (and writes about it) we'll never know for sure.

Like you, I'm very comfortable using Maracyn 1 & 2 w/copper. One time I had to substitute Furan-2 w/fish in copper. I didn't have any problems, have done it numerous times since then; so now I'm comfortable with that as well.
