Marcus?

Sorry, a couple bad decisions lead to some big losses. After that I needed a break. The last 6 months maintenance has been nothing but feedings.

I decided to try to take my tank back (get it back into shape) this past weekend. I'm starting with a series of water changes and cleaning the front glass to see where I stand.

Good to see you are still around marcus.

Thanks guys. This can be a frustrating hobby. All's good one day, the next it starts going down hill. We'll see if I can get it back on track.

Thanks for the offers. Not sure what to do till I do some water changes to get all stabilized again and give it time. I'm surprised by what did survive. I have to say this, fish and anemones are d*mn hardy.

Lost all SPS, LPS, and clams. Still have my fish, nems, and a few softys.

Vlamingii Tang
4 Yellow Tangs
Large Pacific Blue Tang
2 tomato clowns
clarki clown
gold stripe maroon clown
6-12 various damsels

Rose BTA
Blue Carpet
Sebae

Star polyps, shrooms

Thanks.
Right now I need to bring the nitrates back down after all that death. I'm starting with water changes (thought about 10 20gallon changes). Got my skimmer working again. I think I also need to get in there and suck out any detritus I can find and remove all the skeletons.

Man, that really sucks Marcus. You had some awesome clams. Any idea what caused it? I know you have a lot of open surface area since it's a table tank. Do you think something in the air made it's way into the water?

When your tank is stable again send me a PM and I'll hook up up with some frags.

What started it?... That's a good question. I think I made a series of bad decisions that lead to a spike in nitrates.

I started with new lights without sufficiently acclimating. I also around the same time tried to get aggressive about phosphates. That's about when I lost my sps.

Then I sold my 12" gigas clam which was probably taking in nitrates.

I offset my losses with a couple fish and some lps. A couple big fish. A 10-12" vlamingii and a 10-12" dori. I think one of them nip some lps or clams because my lps and clams started going down hill. Didn't take long for my nitrates to build.

I added a rdsb in a 32gal brute knowing there would be some cycle time and just stopped looking at the tank as each day something else would die. Either due to nipping or nitrates. Not sure. I had lost so much by this time I just didn't care.
