Marine Beta

Hi,

I just read your article on the marine betas. I have had one for about a week. I now realize why my cleaner shrimp is hiding now. Do you believe the beta will eat it? I also noticed on your list of campatibility there was not mention of clowns. I do have one but the Beta does not seem to bother it. Lately it comes out of the shadows to hang around my yellow tang.

Thanks,

Michael

hi michael,

cleaner shrimp are usually safe, but this isn't always the case. if the marine betta is small, you might be OK. try to get the betta eating prepared foods as quickly as possible and it may not begin to hunt for critters in your tank.

clownfish are damsels. the compatibility depends on what specie sof clowns, if they are hositng in an anemoen (or something similiar), and what size tank you have them sharing.

Marine Beta

Henry,

Thanks for the quick reply. The Beta is about 5 inches long the tak is 100 gal but probably 70 with all the sand and rocks. The clown is not hosting in anything-percula clown. I think it was tank raised. I do not have strong enought lighting to get a anonome at this point. I am feeding Form II for the Tang and frozen brine shrimp as well. Should I do an evening feeding for the beta as well?

Thanks,

Michael

hi micheal,

i think you should be OK provided the clownfish is large enough.

do you have actinic lights? bettas generally become somewhat active (for bettas anyway) during this light photoperiod. this would be a good time to feed the betta.

have you seen it eat yet?

Hi,

yes I do have actinic lights. I have noticed the Beta comes out quite a bit lately. Does eat the brine shrimp which is a nice thing.

Thanks,

Michael
