Marine Betta

Masedaddy

SPS/Chalice Collector
I picked up a Marine Betta the other day from the LFS in town. It is one great looking fish and the perfect size too, about 3 in. So far I see him poking his head out every now and again. He is very shy and I have a Neon dotty back that can be a bully. But I was told the Betta can hold their own... Anyways I can't wait to see him out and about! Pics to follow....

Wow! Thats an impressive fish for sure! Cant wait to see pics. Hope he gets comfy enough for a photo shoot soon! :)

He is still hiding...... I can see him on very few occasions now.... I hope he is ok....:sad1:

They are very difficult to keep/feed from what i hear. I also have read that they can be rather timid and shy so maybe just give him his space and time and he will make an appearance sooner or later Im sure. Hopefully sooner!

I've heard they can be nocturnal and just come out to swim during the night. Amazing looking fish tho! Congrats

M. Bettas are pretty much nocturnal in nature. They prefer very dimly lit tanks with lots of caves and ledges to hide in or under. Over time may become more boisterous but it will be very timid and shy for a long time. If you haven't fed it yet it will more than likely not take frozen foods. Typically they need to be started on a diet of live ghost shrimp or live brine shrimp. Good luck, they are one of the top 5 most striking fish IMO.

Soooo..... I have Good News!! The betta made an appearance today for over an hour. It was during the time when the lighting was at its full peak. He swam happily in and out of the rocks. He seemed curious about my mandarin. He followed him around for a while. He also willingly took frozen brine(which was thawed, added a dash of cyclopeeze, garlic, omegas, mixed in some mussels, Reef Nutrition Articpods and R. O. E.) He went after it and came back for more. After he was stuffed, he went back to inspecting the mandarin. Then he went back into hiding. I will keep everyone updated.....

So I think I have bad news.... I haven't seen the Marine Betta for quite some time now. I'm pretty sure its been over a week and a half since my last siting. I am not pleased about this but I think I'm going to have to pronounce the Betta as lost at sea. He will follow in the footsteps of many great marine fish that have made their way to that Big Ocean in the Sky..... RIP Marine Betta!!

Truly upset by this :sad1:
