Marine ich in Display Tank

I'm sure you do something similar, but here's a copy of how I cycle my QT...I've posted this several times. I never have a problem with levels of ammonia/nitrite; I don't think Cupramine is that hard on the bacteria, that's just my experience and SeaChem has the same position. My general point on QT & parasites is about the same as our Country's position on terrorists; 'Never negotiate with terrorists and kill them all at any reasonable cost".

"n regards to Qt cycling; I've done this for years. Get a HOB filter; I really like Aqua-Clear, they have a big sponge and last forever. Don't use the carbon or ceramic noodles that come with the filter. Also, have some extra sponges on hand, they're cheap. Keep a sponge in the flow somewhere in your DT. When you need a QT or HT, just use the sponge that has been in your main system in your QT filter---the QT will be instantly cycled. When done, toss the sponge and keep a new one ready in your main system.
BTW, Cupramine copper, used in a QT,will not destroy a bio-filter"

hello. I am real happy to hear that cupramine won`t kill bacteria. At the moment I am using cupramine in my display tank, I removed corals to the quarantine tank. I am doing daily water change in my main tank, as I am worried about ammonia spike!:mad2: My Api ammonia test shows false ammonia readings ( i tested RO water with added cupramine and ... API test showed ammonia aff the scale!:sad2:). This is my first Ich problrm!::sad1: I was worried to remove my fish , as it would *** stress, and also I wanted to kill ich in my display tank. :blown: hope i will be able to kill ich forever this way!

Most ammonia tests don't work with copper; the ammonia alert badges do.

The question from E Rosewater is vital. Copper is easy to get out of a proper QT (with no rock or substrate), making that tank safe for anything. However, I would never put corals a tank that had copper with rocks and substrate. There is no way to tell how much copper has been absorbed by those materials. If you just leave a tank fishless, corals & other inverts can stay, ich will die off completely in 12 weeks or so.

Also adsorption of the Copper by the rocks/substrate can lower levels in the water making the treatment less effective.

Yes, even totally ineffective. Several years ago, I tested Cu in a tank with LR & CU; results were all over the place. One day about what they should be, 12 hours later, below minimal effective rate. Cu also showed on a test a week after running cuprisorb for 10 days.

hello. I added cupramine to my main tank after removing corals and inverts. I left all my live rock and sand in the main tank. I contacted seachem and they told me that I will be able to remove cupramine from my live rock and sand by using just a carbon and cupri sorb. Cupramine is a special copper - which is buffered copper and is easily removed from tank..I am real hope that this is true. I will let You know in a 3-4 weeks. AS I said I was not able to catch my fishes, and my quarantine was too small for all the fish. I was trying to use reef safe meds- aasha odinex but it killed my yellow montipora plate, rest of the corals were fine! this yellow montipora becme purple 2 days after dosing Odinex reef safe and then died! I have read a lot about diffrebt coppers- citric, ionic, buffered, chelated and I found out that cupramine is buffered copper and is the softiest copper on the market available. I am going to change my fish tank for bigger soon, and if I won`t be able to remove cupramine I will just speed up my plans of changing tank, and tilll then I will be keepng my corals and inverts in quarantine tank. I have got copper test and in the first week sand and rock were absorbing copper but now the level is stable,as I check it every day. Aga

hello. I was wonder if you will be able to help me. I am new in this forum and not sure where should I ask? I am throughout 3th week of cupramine treatment for ich. About month ago i purchase Elibi Angelfish and i placed in my reef tank without quarantine.2 weeks after that he become sick with ich and it spread on 3 more fishes..After a week of Cupramine treatment ich was gone! After I purchase this angelfish i noticed that he got small scare like on his side. After week of Cupramine treatment, when ich was gone I noticed that this small scare looks now like a lump, actually 4 small lumps growing close to each other. Next day lumps become a bit bigger, and the next day this lumps looked like white dots -poss!. Those white dots-poss-spots were gone the next day.Now there is small scare, but it looks like is healing! 2 days after that was gone i noticed another lump- on her gill, close to lips! and again - next day after i noticed new lump , lump becomed white spot-poss. Yesterday it was there, but today hopefully will be gone! I have not ideas what it might be? I looked over the internet for diffrent fotos of diseases and I found similar -lumphosis..but lumphossis is getting bigger every day, right? On mine fish it develop- from lump, to white spot-poss - then small scare on skin..and then when everything appear to be clear .. next lump.. Hope this make sense?

It would help if you could post a picture of the fish & these lumps, and I would also recommend starting a new thread.

Sigh"¦ Marine Ich"¦ Spent a lot of time banging my head against the wall :headwalls: because of it. I am currently in round two of this stuff. Treated fish with hyposalinity the first time. A few months later it came back and spread to almost all the fish in the reef tank. Finally decided to treat with copper so I am setting up a FO tank and after the two week treatment period in QT I am moving them to the FO tank. I am going to let the reef tank sit for nine weeks without fish to let the ich go through their cycles and die off.

Google marine ich and learn the various life stages it goes through. Quite interesting...

You should treat ALL the fish even if they don't show signs. It can still be present in their gills. Some fish can fight it better than others. I know that hyposalinity is much easier on the fish but Copper works for sure, but it's very hard on the fish and will kill any inverts/coral. After doing a lot of research I decided to go with copper this round. One week down so far so good.

You should be treating way longer. Hypo doesnt really work. Tank transfer does well, same with copper
