Maroon Clowns

I think Maroons and Niger Triggers can coexist for life with some luck. I had the little one in with the big clown, and it was shredded overight. If it happens again I would be looking at major healing up time in a small tank. If it gets beaten up bad again it might not last in minute in the Trigger tank if it is weakened. Don't forget that these grow to 6". An article I read alluded to the fact that this has been done (keeping Triggers with Maroons). My Niger's really have no time to sey in on the Clowns, hence it is to say that I will remove the Clown if danger becomes apparent. IMO it would not be surprising to walk into a fish store, and see a huge display tank with Trigger's, and Maroon CLowns that have been in there for years.

why don't you put the smaller one in with the larger in the 33. A 33 gal tank with just ric. and 2 maroons would be great. As for breeding, you should have no trouble collecting the fry. I wouldn't put a clownfish in your aggressive tank, they will eventually become food.

Maroons becoming food? yeah right. A maroon will not back down to any fish.
 
the stronger, bigger, with the bigger teeth will most likely always be the winner. just cause maroons are an aggresive clown spieces doesent make them the most aggressive period... I dont know whats going on in the ocean, but i doubt triggers and maroons a close neighbors.
 
Yeah but aggressive fish will respect other aggressive fish. So a clown trigger will be more likely to go after a damsel than a female maroon clownfish. A maroon will not back down anyways.
 
Thanks Dantodd. To be honest I am not going to do anything right now. I 5-7 tanks up , and running so I have at the very least one more tank that will hold a pair of Maroons. Maybe it will work to put the little one in the 33. Perhaps I lost patience when I tried it last. Maybe the big one was going to leave the little one alone after the beating which could have went on all night, because I turned the lights off for the night, and then put the little clown in. I was rather relieved that it was not killed in the morning. Thanks for all of the suggestions. Might I say that what works for one hobbyist might not work for another. every fish is a different fish even if it is the same species. Peoples' experiences can very greatly.
 
I put my two Maroons together in my 180. They were in there overnight, and the little one is not beaten up this morning. They dacne with each other, and touch lip to lip. The larger one seems to keep a small area around it secure, and the smaller one stays near. This is an update to the guys in this thread who were encouraging me to try them together. Thanks.

I purchased 2 GSM's as a mated pair from my LFS for $40 total (they were both together in the same very small species tank, approx 6x6x6, so I had a pretty good idea that they were a mated pair before I bought them since they were so close together & weren't fighting). The female is 2 to 2.5 times bigger than the male right now.

They are currently living in a 90g with 2 scooter blennies and 1 mysteri wrasse. The GSM's get along with the other fish with no problems whatsoever. One of the blennies scooted into the GSM's space, and the female picked it up by it's tale & moved it away. But it did so in a pretty gentle manner & didn't harm the blenny at all. The wrasse the GSM's will often be right next to each other w/o problem.

Hope this helps with the question about them coexisting with other peaceful fish.

if the lil one starts twitching like crazy, thats a good thing.

And they will kiss cheekspines too.
thats all a sign of the lil one submitting and letting the bigger one know hes got no qualms about her being the female etc.
 
Tourkid. It will be 24 hours near 2 AM. I was up all night consolidating all of my fish into my 180. What a move. Still, the big Maroon has not yet hurt the little Maroon. I mean not at all. In any case, if they live together that will be enough for me. Breeding would simply be a bonus. Really I would like to watch them get big. I guess the big Maroon will grow to 6 inches, but the little one will not. I would like to see a six inch Maroon Clown.
