Matt Lauer Today Show Feature

that was cool, but i wish they had talked about reef tanks a little, instead of interviewing the people with plastic corals who obviously don't take of the tanks themselves.

I actually saw it on the Today show yesterday. It was kinda dumb IMO. I mean it lasted all of 30 seconds and I agree that they should have talked to some people who actually take care of their tanks.

Don't tell me that that couple who spent 100,000+ on that round tank actually gets in there and cleans that plastic coral off! hah hah.

the couple from atlanta you are referring to, im pretty sure he's not fitting in the tank and she strikes me as more of a pay someone to do it person, which is fine if you have the money and don't want to get involved

I liked her quote at the end "was 125,000 worth it, i think so"

not to me, i could have put together the same tank with corals instead of plastic for much less, and its not like there were any really expensive fish in there to justify the cost, though they were probably told those blue tangs are rare. She seemed to want everyone to know how much she spent. I did like the "wet bar,"whoever installed that made a killing.

That's what I was trying to figure out. I mean those people had the same fish that we have in our tanks and the tank isn't THAT big. What the heck did they pay 100K+ for?

The bar idea was kinda neat though (admittedly I didn't get a good look at it because I was getting ready for work).

I agree.....I saw a program done once on pet palaces and there was a family on there that had a fish only tank. It cost $8000, and there was very little to justify the cost. They gave the prices paid for the fish and I had to laugh.....a single yellow tang was
$200. The tank was built in the wall with fake coral, about 10 fish, skimmer, wavemaker...little else and I think it was maybe 400 gallon

I can understand a 400 gallon tank costing 8000, heck a good skimmer could go for 3g alone, but their was what 1500gl, and 125,000? they got raped and are happy about it

Someone has to install the tank and do all the custom work for them. Doubt these people charge $5/hr for their labor and time either, not to mention insurance, workers comp, state and local taxes that goes along with having someone else do all the work.

That having been said, I guess I got a steal on my 2000 gallon tank which was custom made and shipped over from Australia.

Everybody that thinks it was such a rip off hasn't priced a cylinder tank that size, especially if it was seamless. The artificial coral is custom made for each tank built and they are VERY proud of their creations!$$$

Not trying to be a hater. That couple in Atlanta, I couldn't see paying 125 large for that. maybe 25 large, I've seen 25 tall eclipse's look better that that. But I am sure the majority of the Cost was consturction of the tank seeing that it was seemless. And Cylinder "custom construction".

You couldn't even come close to buying a 1300 gallon seamless cylinder tank for 25k. Even if it did have seams, it would be well above 25k for the tank alone. That doesn't even touch on all the equipment and the insert. If you don't belive me, price it around..

heh, my cousin's business has somewhat recently grown... he's building a multi-million dollar house in Atlanta.

I heard he was getting a large tank installed in his house, and other family members said "You should talk to Stephany".
His response was, "Eh, I'll just pay someone to put it in."

Since he doesn't care about it, I'm probably going to urge that all and any corals be fake. If not fake, definitely aquacultured.

Especially since it won't be maintained by the people that live there every day.
