I have a 29 gallon. I just bought one tonight and hooked it up and it seems to be way to much flow for my tank. It is blowing my sand on the opposite of my tank and it seems like it way to much flow. I am kinda new to the hobby and learn alot of what I was doing wrong for the last 2 years. I just dont want to go down the wrong path again just wanted to get other opinions.

Stock 1200s don't put out that much flow. If sand is being blown around it is due to how you have the pump positioned. If it is a Maxijet 1200 with a Sure flow mod, then that is likely too much for a 29 gallon with sand.

I have mine in the circulation pump mode with the cage on it. I have a seaclone skimmer on the upper leaft back side. I put the new MAxi-jet on the right hand wall. Tried point in a bunch of positions and it just seem to providing alot of flow.

I have a 30 gallon breeder and i'm using the same pump as a temp fix for my other broken power head. I had the same problem with the sand, just keep trying and make sure you have the diffuser thingy on the tip of the outlet, that helped spread the flow out better. Flow is always good, although it may sem strong it really isn't.
