Maxi Jet Mod Help

So my headache with the 1440 may just be the pump itself not the construction?

How does the flow compare from a dumas 3004 to the 1440?

in my opinion the the 1440 is around 300gph more but others will disagree . judging by the pitch, theoretically the 1440 should do more.

If the MJ1200 is the biggest Maxi Jet out there and it still can't run the 1440 are people just getting lucky when using it?

umm is say more like some people are unlucky or their build just isn't perfect enough.

for anyone new to the project id always advise to use the dumas 3004 and once ya really know what you are doing try the octura 1440. thing is the dumas always works , is it really that important to get 2300 gph rather than 2000 ?

simply put i think the 1440 pushes the mj to the very edge of its of it's ability. any time ya do that with anything you are bound to have some not not work. all it takes is a slightly weaker MJ or magnet or just a tiny flaw in your build that produces excess friction.

id like to note that the carbon fiber combo produces more friction than the SS rod/plastic tube until its been worn in for quite a while.

personally id never use the carbon fiber rod. The tube is nice but id use the SS rod with it instead. the carbon fiber has all those little ridges that rub on each other.

I've been playing with the carbon fiber rod and plastic tube, which at this point is quieter than the carbon fiber rod and tube combo. The SS scares me only because unless you get high grade SS it will still corrode after time.

Here are my thoughts on this

1. The Octura 1440 is much more aggressively pitched than the Dumas 3004 so you might be pushing it with your MJ1200.

2. Not all MJs are built eually. Some have stronger/weaker magnets that others IME. Also depends on the age of your pump too.

3. If it can't spin without the shroud on then the prop is definitely too big for the pump. Try the Dumas 3004 or the smaller Octura 1435.

If you use SS 316 grade then you would not have to worry about corrosion. Mcmaster.com sells 316 ss filler rods for w3elding which are perfect for this.

I just bought a few Dumas 3004 props, so I'm going to give that a shot.

My shroud build comes out really clean and now I'm also using a RC Plane wheel to perfect the centering of the rod. The shroud is mistake proof, but the prop is kicking my rear.

Hopefully the 3004 will work and I can finally put this built behind me and start my next adventure.

You can also just cut your prop down some.

If it spins out of the water but not in the water, that always means your prop is too big for the pump, ceteris parabis

I have the same problem with my MJ 900 and the Octura 1435. How would you cut the prop down and keep it balanced? I am pretty sure that everything else is good, but sometimes the prop just won't spin the right way and will just clatter around in the MJ.

You just do your best. I have cut a few down and I know ther werent perfectly balanced, but I never had any problem with them. I think as long as you dont make one side dramatically different, then you should be fine.

I have had the same problem using the 1440, it was a little too much prop for my 1200, I had to cut it down a bit.

When mine clatters around I lower the MJ in the tank and it will right itself. Then just raise it back up.

Hmm, so maybe it is a depth thing. I will lower it down more and see what happens before I start cutting up my spare props.
