Maxi-Jet Mod

Aquatic Hamster

Well I just performed my first Maxi-Jet 1200 Mod. All I can say is O WOW. The current this thing puts out now is amazing. It took a little tweaking to get everything sized right, but now it seems to run like a champ. Now we'll see how long it lasts.

If your running maxi-jets and you want more flow this mod is certainly worth investigating.

hey Chad,

did you get your kit from mjmods? do you have the modified PH on a wavemaker? if so, is there any type of clicking sounds when turning on?

I have used an MJmod and currently use oceanflo mods with a wavemaster Pro and they both give that clicking/grinding sound when they cycle on/off. It's 7am and I'm sitting right next to my tank and the noise is rather loud.

The flow from both is great and is comparable or even better than Seio 1500's.

I doubt I'll be using a wave maker with them so I can't tell you much about the startup noise. I didn't notice much. One thing I did discover over night was that some macro alge broke loose and got sucked in and wrapped around the shaft. This unbalanced the shaft so it was making quite a racket. I cleaned it all out and it was back to normal, so far running real quite. We'll see if it stays quite over time. I just need to get all that macro alge moved back to the fuge.

yeah, i would be very interested in turning my maxi's into a higher performance power head. ill def. be watchign this.

Well, my pictures of the various bits in the power head aren't coming out too well. However a couple of the in tank shots show the finished product.

You can find detailed instructions with pictures and a how to video at http://www.mjmods.com/

They also have kits you can purchase that provide everything you need to perform one of these mods. I'm not sure how long it will last, but I just love little DIY projects.
