Maxima care requirements

Give us info on your settup and we can give you suggestions
For starters I suggest a good book like "Giant Clams: A Comprehensive Guide to the Identification and Care of Tridacnid Clams" by Daniel Knop
/\-Absolutely required if you want a giant clam IMO

lets see maxs require intence light to thrive in captive conditions...halides are recomended...but t5s with a good reflector have had some sucess latley...the brown or gold maxs require a bit less light, how much less i dont know...

Small clams need to be feed a small in size food source that is measured in microns...live phytoplankton is the food of choice either DTs or liquid life or home brewed cultures...

Consistant high quality water conditions...low to nil on nitrates and phosphates...calcium in the 400ppm range and alkalintiy thats either natural sea water or higher...as long as its in the upper range and balanced and consistant...

and an enviroment where its mantle is blown around by the curent, fish that dont nip, and the absence of clam parasites...syrmidal snails being the main culpret...

I agree with both posts. Please tell us about your system. Scuba DOg has given some good basic requirements.

oops I made a mistake...on the flow rates...the mantle should not be bown around to the point where the clam will close up....
