about a 2 month old 100 gal tank with two 175 watt metal halide. Switched over from a 55 tall. I have some LPS and soft coral. I purchased a small 1.5 inch maxima about 3 days ago. I acclimated him by putting him on the bottom of my tank then slowly moving him up to 8 inches from the top. It seemed that he didn't like that so I moved him down to now 11 inches from the top of my tank. He fell off a couple of times but I replaced him. Now it seems he is closed and his mantle is in a weird upwards direction instead of out to the sides. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE HELPFUL!!!!

No, I have not been feeding him, I just got him 3 days ago. The LFS had him for while. Should I feed him some kent plankton solution? Would that help my current situation. Thanks for replying I hope more people will help me. I hate to lose out on this precious little clam and 30 dollars.

Thank you

Alex

Yes, he is in a nice flow of water not to strong or slow. Just right. I have to maxi 1200 jets setup up on either end of my tank and they blow like anything. I know I need to get two more when I go SPS. But the water circulation is just right.

Alex, a 1.5" maxima needs to be fed daily, because it is too small to absorb enough light to create the sugars that give it energy.

You can pull the clam out of your tank each day, putting it in a small bowl of tank water, plus a small dose of phytoplankton. The water will be greenish, but after about 45 minutes the water should be clear and your clam well-fed. Put it back in the tank.

The only thing that will keep that baby max alive is live photplankton, when there little like that the ligting really dosent matter much, as the clam grows the light source will play a larger role, but at the moment its hightly dependent on its food source , DT"S would be an excelent choice..unless your set up to culture your own...

thanks all for the great advice. Too bad I can't really use it since my baby has died. I got home last night and found it half eaten. I am thinking the burgundy serpent star I had for about a year now came by and sucked the inners out when the clam has fallen.
