I have a 180 gallon , SPS/LPS/softies tank. Everything does great and grows and multiplies in my tank ...EXCEPT Maximas. I have a crocea that has been with me since the start up of this tank, but I have lost 3 Maxima's. I dunno what I am doing wrong.
My crocea looks great and is fully extended during the day.The maxima's all looked fine. They were attached with no byssal problems. They would be fully extended one day with no gaping at all, then the next day when I get home they are already dead. I have been feeding the tank homegrown Phyto. These were not the baby maximas...they were all 4-5 inchs . This is not a one time thing.
One maxima was in the tank the first time. The last time I had 2 maximas in the tank. They went into the tank at the same time, but died about a month apart. When I came home the snails in the tank were already having a feast on them.
I did notice that the mantle on them seems to be ok when I found them, but the byssal tissue seems to have desintegrated , kinda like the problem started there maybe.
I have looked for the pyramidal snails but have not found any. Is there a parasite that effects ONLY the Maximas and not the croceas ?
Here is some info on the tank:
This is a Barebottom tank
I use coralife salt and change out 35 gallons every 2 weeks
I run Carbon 24/7 switched out every 3 weeks in a Phosban reator
I run Ozone on the tank
Orp - 370
1.025 S.G.
79 degree temp
3-20'k 400 watt Xm bulbs
Refuge with mixed caulerpas and chaeto in it.
ammonia-0
nitrite -0
nitrate - unmeasureable
KH 9.0
calcium 425-450
Mag- 1450
phoshates -unmeasureable
All test run with Salifert test kits.
I have a small fish load in the tank: 1 small Purple tang, 1 ex-small yellow tang, 1 manderin goby , 1 yellow coris wrasse, 2 small maroon clowns.
My SPS grow like weeds , my ricordia is doing good, My LPS are growing and splitting, my Crocea has added 4-5 flutes since he's been in the tank, zoo's are starting to take off. This seems to be the only sore spot about my tank and its baffleing me . I have kept maximas with no problems years ago.But for some reason I can't now, and I'm too blind to see why.
Any ideas ? I'm at a loss .......
This is some of the tank stuff that I remember from the last water change. I have just about every Salifert test kit known to man.....LOL . So, if you need the reading off of another testthat I didn't post , let me know what needs to be tested, and I post the results.
This tank has been up and running for over a year with no problems except this one.
Thanks
