May see pics of your candle light coral?

Mine has grown quite fast, especially considering it's humble beginnings. I'll take some shots tonight and post it. It's starting to get a pinkish lavender base. Very cool acro, passerby's can't help but notice.

MMOTOWM ... How 's the tank ? I haven"t spoke to you in a while........ Mike

Mike all is well as of now. My tank is fine! Never had any problems with algae of anykind. Started using pappone with good results as far as growth is concerned but afterwards had all types of algae problems. Some corals started to STN slowly but all of my parameters were within its proper range. Except my Mg which was kinda low and I have started dosing to bring it up. Just treated my tank this weekend for red bugs. That problem is behind me now but now I have to replenish my pod population and replace my cleaner shrimp. Wasn't about to rearrange my rock in a 150 to get them out :(. Other than that I am great!!!!!!!!! How about you?

Very cool coral. Looking for pics of bigger colonies.

Good luck finding them!
This coral has only been recently distributed by Karl. Pretty much unless it's a wild collected, your only going to see small frags and small colonies.

Plus, as soon as it is big enough to frag, so many people want it that many end up fragging their mini-colonies :).

Heres a really bad picture back in October 06, 3 weeks after I got it in mid September. Those are 1 inch frag plugs, and no, its not the one on the left, thats the slimer, its the blury one up top;)

Here it is today, slightly better pic:

Easily 10x it's size in just under a year :)

Hi Warren - Got your PM and figured I'd just post the pics here;)

A friend of mine picked up this piece from Eddie Hanson's Tropical Paradise in late '04. The frag STN'd to a small 1/4" nub, when he gave it to me in Spring '05. I was able to grow that into the colony pictured below in my old 40g.

I later learned that Steve Tyree and Rich (Sand Dollar) also had the exact same piece. Steve referred to it as the Super Chesterfieldensis, and Rich, the Flashlight Coral. Steve isn't sure if he still has his, but Rich's colony was lost. However, some of it was distributed to a couple of fellow reefers locally, and in Arizona.

Before I distributed a couple of frags through ExoticReefs and UltimateFrags, John (tubs) asked if I could come up with a different name for my version. That's when I eventually called it the Candlelight Acro. I've been told that it's possibly an Acropora kimbeensis.

It has a reputation of being hard to keep, unfortunately. Which is why there isn't much of it, outside of Northern California. Once established, however, it grows quite steadily.

What I like most about the piece, is that it can maintain the bright tips at the bottom, and even the corners of a tank. Brightening up those darker, difficult-to-fill areas. You'll get the bright yellow-green tips with a tan body. Up high, the tips become more intense, and the body begins to frost, as shown here:

Here are pics of my two colonies, which are both kept at the bottom.

This one gets high flow:

This one gets low flow:

I don't know if Matt (reefready) still has some left.

HTH

Karl;)
