Hi I was wondering, Could a Mazzara Maxpect P-series cover a 30"x30"x12" shallow tank assuming that it is dead center above the tank to be able to maintain and grow sps, a maxima/derasa and lps/softies? Im deciding whether to go DIY (more time consumed, more margins for error) or the mazzara Maxpect p-series (all done, can be controlled via controller + more fx with it) since the radion is totally outta my high school budget.

I would go for the radion since you would need 2 Mazzara to cover 30x30. I have 3 of them on my 48x20 and its just about enough. Originally, i bought 2 for it thinking one could easily do 24x24 but i was wrong, there wasn't enough coverage for it so i bought a third one. This is with a 100 degree optics btw.

Not a chance unless you only want to light an 18" x 18" section at the center of the tank. I have two P-Series over my 40 breeder.
If you don't want to go the DIY route, then google Maxspect Mazarra X. while you are saving a little more money. I think a master / slave pair of the X-series will be more along your budget while giving you the light you need.

Can I ask why you're not considering T5? I'm in high school as well, so I understand how money can be limited. I unfortunately dropped $1000 on my AI LED's and now have to supplement with T5's to cover the spectrum. If you don't go radion, which covers the color spectrum well for LED's, then I would stay away from LED, especially the DIY tri color, blue, royal blue, white combo that is unfortunately limiting my AI Sols performance.

I'd play it safe and go T5, 4 x 24 watt or 6 x 24 watt Tek would be the best bang for your buck IMO.

I was thinkin about going T5s but then again after the years of replacements its gonna be quite expensive. I was planning to go full spectrum on the LED -> Mix of blues, royal blues, cool whites, neutral whites, warm whites, UV, cyan, red/orange, green. all spreaded out into 36-42 LEDS on a heatsink but it would be quite expensive approx. $500+ but no where near the price of a radion or have all the cool bells and whistles like it but i dont really care about the bonuses.

How about a ecoxotic panorama pro 24" hung above and jammed packed with the LED strips to create a near perfectly full spectrum and attached with a fan?

Sounds like that could work. Definitely go LED though, the hassle of replacing T5s constantly definitely makes it a painful proposition.
