Meds in QT

Hello, I'm just wondering what everyone's opinions are for treating prophylactically for ich. Do you do it even if you see no signs of it? Any concerns for using medications in fish when they may not be necessary? I know for myself I likely wouldn't take medication for something that I didn't have. I'm just trying to decide if I should treat my powder blue tang.. I know their reputations. I've had him in QT for almost 3 weeks and while he did have black ich (treated and gone now) he hasn't shown any signs of the white ich.

You'll get differing opinions on this. I personally treat most fish prophylactically with CP @ 40mg/gal for 4 weeks, once they are acclimated and eating well. For more sensitive species like wrasses, I observe for 10 weeks and treat if disease symptoms appear. Another option for Crypto is tank transfer, since it is 100% effective. Note that it will not work for other ailments, so an extended observation period is still required.
