Anyone have any experience with Melafix??? I introduced a new Emperor Angel to the tank and it has some white stuff on the fins. It's not super bad but it's getting worse. Can I treat the entire tank with melafix? Or do I have to quarintine? I have a starfish and seaurchin in tank. Theres other fish as well...Please help and don't leave bad comments.

Admittedly, I used it many years ago, but I didn't find it did anything useful. Snail oil IMO. Sometimes I wish there was an FDA for fish meds so they'd have to pull these worthless products off the market and/or stop making false claims.

I used it in a quarantine tank to successfully treat fin rot. Of course there were other elements in play that helped - attention to water quality, removing any stress factors and ensuring the fish were fed a variety of nutrient rich foods - but the Melafix seemed to speed up the healing of their fins. I don't have any experience of using it in the main display tank.

What kind of "white stuff"? A pic would help; Melafix won't----at least according to anything I've ever read. 'White Stuff" could be ich, velvet, fungus, bacterial, fin rot, just torn fins, etc, etc. There is very little you can treat in the DT. If I said that you could set a QT for far less than the cost of the Angel, would that be a "bad comment'? I hope not, its vital.

Thanks for the advice. I removed the Yellow Tang and put it in the Quarantine. I woke up at about 2:00am to put more wood in the fire place and noticed the Tang was beating up on the Emperor. I decided to do this because the Emperor has been through enough trama and my Tang is pretty strong. I feel the Emperor will have more success if is not stressed or being picked on...I treated with Melafix. I did research and Melafix is not suppose to hurt any thing. I add a little bit of Moroxy to help heal NEW wounds. I'm feeding Angel/Butterfly formula and Emperor is eating good. I hope it will do well.

I used it a few times mainly for my freshwater fish helps a lot with cloudy eyes and fin rot in my opinion. If your main source for filtering your water is a skimmer just be carefull it will make it go nuts until you clean it and do a decent size water change.

Yeah, I dont have a skimmer on the fish only, but I do have one on the Reef Tank. I hope my Emperor gets better he's missing some fin. I waited for tank to mature 8 months before I got this guy. Funny thing, He's eating great and looks happy. But his fin looks bad. I think I just had to take the bully out...I heard if you take a bully out and then re-introduce it will forget and be less aggresive.

Mr Turk fish...No that would not be a bad comment and I already have a Quarantine! When I post it's to educate myself or help somone. I don't appreciate people who are waiting to bash someone or think they know it all.

what your describing sounds to me like a common angelfish disease its calle lymphocystis, these fuzzy white balls can be manually picked off the fish once u catch it,just gently scrape them off with your finger, once there all gone melafix works wonders to help heal as a secondary infection preventative.there is a miracualous product that your local fish store may have, you cannot buy it due to the fda strict regs, its called kanomycin,it will heal all the spots where the lympho was.melafix is considered reef safe when used with caution,i swear by it.good luck.
