Yes it is possible. I had 2 flashers and a bunch of other wrasses in with my melanarus for a good while. He really just hunted all the time and did not pay the pther fish much attention. However I did have to remove the melly last weekend and move him to a fowlr tank because he had started killing my clams. I had put up with him eating snails and hermits but I could not deal with him flipping over and killing all my ORA clams.
My melanarus had been in my tank for a good while. He did seem to grow pretty fast. He was around 6" and at least 1" thick, so he was a big boy. I have always had a bunch of clams and he never bothered them but all of a sudden he got a taste of one of the smaller ORA clams foot when he flipped it over (which he always did to anything small looking for anything to eat) I couldnt stop him. He turned into a clam monster and started attacking them daily. With over a dozen clams he had to go.
