Hi to all< I was just wondering if there are any members from northern MN out there. I live in Chisholm, which is on the iron range. I am kinda new to this hobby,but do enjoy it. hope to hear from you.

I am from Bemidji .

And yes tell us more about your set-up. And don't think there is a dumb question because there is no such thing.

Int'l Falls checking in! Welcome to the MN forum, are you all alone in Chisholm or anybody else there into saltwater?

HI AGAIN;
I DO NOT KNOW OF ANYONE IN CHISHOLM THAT IS IN TO SALTWATER. I HAVE BEEN DOIN THIS FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. I HAVE A 30 GAL BIO-CUBE WITH THE STANDARD LIGHTING AND PUMP. I ADDED A SAPPHIRE SKIMMER TO IT AND TOOK OUT THE BIO BALLS. I HAVE ABOUT 30LBS LIVE ROCK AND 2 BAGS OF LIVE SAND. HAVE A FEW CORALS AND MUSHROOMS. I HAVE A PERCULA CLOWN, A GREEN CHROMIS, A FIREFISH GOBY AND A CLEANER SHRIMP, ALONG WITH SOME HERMIT CRABS AND SOME SNAILS. I HAVE A 75 GAL TANK AND STAND WITH A CANOPY, BUT WANT TO SELL TANK SO I CAN BUY ONE THAT HAS AN OVERFLOW. THER IS SO MUCH TO LEARN WITH THIS HOBBY AND I HAVE MADE MY SHARE OF MISTAKES. HARD TO FIND LIVSTOCK AROUND HERE, THE LFS DOES NOT HAVE MUCH. :fish1:

Why don't you just drill the 75 and make the overflows I did that on my old 75 and worked out great,unless you want to sell it and upgrade. just a thought.

home depot, did you drill the bottom of the tank, was it tempered glass? I have always been scarred to do it i heard the bottoms can just shatter.

IT IS TEMPERED GLASS. I COULD JUST SET UP AND RUN AS IS, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO SEE PUMPS AND SKIMMERS, ETC... ANIMAL HOUSE IS NOT AT ALL A HELP WITH ANYTHING WHAT SO EVER. ONE DAY THE GUY WAS ADDING SALT TO THE TANK AND POURING IT OVER ALL THE LIVESTOCK, NOW I THOUGHT THAT WAS NOT GOOD TO GET UNDISSOLVED SALT ON ANYTHING. THEIR PRICES ARE THROUGH THE ROOF TOO. NEXT THING TO BUY IS AN R/O WATER SYSTEM, GOING TO SUPER 1 TO BUY IT BY THE GALLON IS GETTTIN OLD. HOW BIG OF SUMP WILL I NEED FOR THAT 75, IWAS THINKIN 20 GAL.

Ely MN here. There is a pretty cool LFS in Cloquet, Underground Aquatics. Jim has some great corals and livestock there. World of Fish in Hermantown isn't too bad either, a little spendy though. I have never been to Animal house in Hibbing so I can't comment. There is a great reef club that has random meetings in Duluth, good group of people with a cache of knowledge.

I drilled mine in the back for the reason you said ,it was tempered bottom. It is really easy to drill so if you want it done I could do it for you if I ever get over there or if we have a meeting over that way .

Oh i see how you did it, i was wondering. I was thinking you went through the bottom, and yes, animal house is lame, i agree. Pet north, the owner in rapids name is adam, he always helps me out.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT BRAND THE TANK IS. I JUST BOUGHT IT FROM A LADY THAT WAS MOVING OUT WEST. THE REASON I BOUGHT IT WAS FOR THE OAK STAND AND CANOPY, WITH THE LIGHTS IN IT.

YEAH, HER NAME WAS BETH, AND SHE MOVED TO SEATTLE I THINK. SHE ENDED UP SELLING ME HER SETUP. I AHD BOUHGT SOME ROCK AND CORALS FROM HER TOO.

I bought ALL of her livestock too. I wonder if I got the raw end of the deal?? She said she sold me everything. Buying sight unseen can have it's downsides.

lol, small world. I was in duluth today and went into fish world and someone in ely made them a real nice frag propogation tank out of 1/2" acrylic cast. He said next week they will now officially be selling frags of sps, and lps. Today they had a few different acropora, millis, clams, and tons of fish and softies and my favorite was chaeto. For something that is close to me i sure am glad what direction they are going with there store. I made it out with a clam and chaeto, i ordered my kalk reactor to try and control some parameters and than i will be going strictly to lps and sps. I will have a ton of softies if anyone wants to try and do some trading. I could frag alot of the bigger colonies.
