It's worth the drive Mike. Mermaid was at WMC and the colonies that were displayed were from Island Marine Tropicals - awesome stuff.

I was kind of dissappinted at the selections, for 24.00 or 5/$100 section, the SPS frags are mostly brown and dull, and for the $44.00 section in bottom of the main display, the color and polyps extension just weren't up to par either. He had some very nice wild monti pieces but are selling at regular price at $130 or up. So for some of you who live far away, I don't think it's worth the trip.

I think it has something to do with his lights. Last time I purchased some zoanthids they doesn't really look great until I placed it in my tank, colors came up, same for the sps i got from him. Maybe I just got lucky that day.

Well I pulled the muscles in my neck doing a water change over the weekend (need to find a better way than lifting the whole tank up and moving it under the faucet ), so I didn't go. I assumed most of the good stuff would be taken on Saturday or at the WMC, he probably just wants to get rid of the inventory.

Also I seem to recall in another topic something about Maricultured colonies having issues, browning out, STN, is there any truth to this? I know a few who have won colonies at the last bar swap having noticed the same thing with colors going southward in a hurry.

Max needs to start some of these sales on a Friday, because I'm over on that side of the bay anyways, so a few extra miles to take a peek at what's available isn't as pricy as the weekends

i was there last weekend and got a couple of nice sps and a monti from his front tank. their prices imo or the lowest in the bay area. can't beat $44 for Ac sps compare to $69 right down the road at AG. also i notice the more you buy the more discount you get.

I won't even spent $5 a brown out frag and show sign of distress, no PE or less than optimal PE. That to me shows there are far more serious issues than just brown out coral. AEFW or red bugs are something which I really don' t want to introduce to my tank even I treat all the incoming frags in Tropic marine's coral dip. I amn't suggesting that Max is selling SPS with full blown AEFW or red bugs but a lot of his SPS even the ones he isn't selling in his main display don't look very healthy at all. $24 or $44.00 might not be such great deal if sps parish in 2 weeks, as many people observed in the BAR's swap meet.
