Mesh Mod Opinions

Just re-meshed 2 of my skimmer impellers. Anyway, before I put them into use, I would like some opinions from those who have experience with mesh modding.

On the yellow impeller (MSX), I used 3 layers of Enkamat Flatback Mesh. On the white impeller (EuroReef), I used 2 layers of Enkamat Flatback Mesh.

How do they look? Should I redo the Euro-Reef with a 3rd layer? Should I remove 1 layer from the MSX impeller... or are they both fine the way they are?

Thanks.

I think they both look good. A long as the pump starts up and there is still clearance, I would leave them. I know most folks reccommend 3 layers, but I have had impellors that I could only use 2 layers, and others that only 1 would work.

HTH and makes sense

Good Job on the mesh work, I have the the yellow paddle wheeled mesh with three layers and like the output. The only thing I don't like is the sicce pump takes alot to start up with it:( I am now looking into a ehiem 1250 to mesh and do away with the sicce on the 200 ex

Two is fine. Three may give you clearance issues with the Sedra. I did the mesh mod on my G3 Sedra pump and did not really notice that much of a difference, if any at all.

Thanks for the responses guys. I took the mesh off the Sedra Impeller last night, and plan on adding a 3rd layer later tonight. I figure it's just going to be trial and error.

Thanks again. :)

I did 3 layers on my msx. Worked great for a while but eventually the start up problem came back. I've since switched to pinwheel.

Yeah I've been running the pin-wheel for a while now, and have been pleased with the results thus far. I still would like to do a comparison between the two, but will probably end up just sticking with the pin wheel for peace of mind.
