Metal frame (antique) tank

I have two old metal frame tanks that leak and I want to fix them up. Have any of you ever done this? How did you do it? Are they still safe to use? Did yours leak latter after you "fixed" it?

What size are they? I used perfecto silicone on mine (its a small 10g) and seemed to work fine. I just replaced the glass and siliconed them in... Although it was freshwater, eitherway... it worked,,,

Shouldn't be a problem as long as the frames are solid. You may as well put new glass in. If they're old tanks, it's probably scratched. New glass and silicone should do the trick!

A 20H and a 10g. Are they safe for saltwater? Does yours have a slate bottom? What was the original adhesive (tar)? Mine is some sort of tar I think.

The original adhesive was like black caulking of some sort, but mine had the glass bottom,... hey if you ever want to get rid of that 20H. let me know!!!

It should be ok if the silicone completely covers the metal in the corners... thats how I did it... no water actually touched the metal. Just make sure theres no rust under the top lip that can get into the water (some metal frames were just chrome plated metal, others were stainless..)
